The study sought to identify the main retention factors in place and to understand employee perceptions concerning retention strategies and HRM practices in use at the OAG. The justification for the study is developed from the lack of retention studies in the Botswana public sector. Employee retention is a major challenge in government and the research evaluated the extent to which employee retention strategies are employed through human resource practices in the OAG. The purpose of the research is to assess the effectiveness of Employee Retention Strategies in Government by examining the case of the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) in Botswana.
